The Independence County Sheriff’s Department is currently involved in a three-session scenario-based training program, according to Sheriff Shawn Stephens.

Stephens (pictured) told White River Now that officers from his department along with some from the Arkansas State Police and school resource officers are taking the training.

He said 22 officers were in the last class at the former middle school educational building on Water Street in Batesville.

Stephens has said in the past that continuous training is essential because officers are faced with many different and unique situations.

The training will conclude with a session this weekend, according to the sheriff.
