A Mountain View man and woman are facing felony theft of property and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges after the theft of a trailer.
Ronnie Dale Dayberry, 45, and Amanda Frances Baty, 37, were taken in for questioning in late May regarding the theft of a 16-foot flatbed trailer, according to court filings.
The two were stopped at a Mountain View gas station just before 1 a.m. May 24 by patrolman Cody Lee. Dayberry was driving a truck with a trailer that had the license plate turned backward and spray painted, according to Lee.
After learning a trailer matching that description had been reported stolen later that day by a Stone County resident, authorities then brought Dayberry and Baty in for questioning.
Dayberry told officials the trailer belonged to his uncle and that he was borrowing it. When asked where the trailer was currently located, Dayberry gave an address, but after going to that location, officers could not find it, the filings noted.
Baty admitted to authorities in her interview that she was with Dayberry when he got the trailer, but she stayed in the vehicle.
Based on the information provided by Baty, the officers then located the stolen trailer, and it was recovered by the owner.
Charges listed on the bench warrants for Dayberry and Baty include felony theft of property and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Dayberry is also being charged under the Habitual Offender Act due to his history of felony charges. Both bonds were set at $2,500 each.
