The Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC) will be hosting an art exhibit “The Other Side of Nothing: Works by Melissa Wilkinson.”

The exhibit will be on display at the BAAC Gallery at 226 E. Main St., June 12 through July 27, and will feature “…a series of watercolor paintings relating to the artist’s interest in dichotomies: obscuring and revealing, attraction and repulsion, good and evil, the past and the present,” according to a press release from BAAC.

Wilkinson serves as associate professor of art-painting at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and was the first-place winner of BAAC’s 2018 National Juried Exhibition. She has won several fellowships and grants including the Arkansas Arts Council Fellowship in painting in 2012 and a Middle East travel grant in 2016 to perform research throughout Israel. She was named a “Woman to Watch” in 2016 by the Arkansas Arts Council.

The gallery reception for this exhibition will be held on Friday, June 14, from 5 p.m. through 7 p.m. with a brief artist talk at 6 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.
