Memorial service scheduled for Shirley man killed in gunfire exchange with deputies

A memorial service has been scheduled for a Shirley man who died in a June 9 officer-involved shooting.

William James Beck, 41, was killed Sunday evening during a reported exchange of gunfire with Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies. (For more on this story, click here.)

The service will be held tomorrow at 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Mountain View. Interment will follow the service at Herpel Cemetery in Mountain View.

Beck had strong ties to Mountain View and Stone County. He was the son of Scott W. Beck and Liz Beck of Mountain View and Melissa J. Hayes and Sherril Hayes of Wilburn, Ark. He is survived by his wife, Amy Beck, his parents, grandparents Dora Faye and Anthony Dahlman, brothers Scott Jeremy Beck and wife Tabitha Beck of Shirley, Michael Beck of Mountain View, Jamie Hayes, of Conway, Jason Hayes of Clinton, Josh Hayes and wife Angie Hayes of Wilburn; and sisters, Emily Meredith and husband Shadd Meredith of Wilburn, Christin Burks and husband Matt Burks of Sheridan, Ark., and Nicole Farnam and husband Sam Farnam of Omaha, Neb.; children, Austin Beck and wife Ashley Beck of Russellville, Laura Beck and Justin Glover of Wilburn, Caleb Babb of Concord, Jacob Beck of Searcy, Fender Beck of Prim, Ark., and Liam Beck, Ella Beck, Noah Beck, and Cora Beck — all of Shirley; one grandchild, Bo Glover of Wilburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Beck was noted in his obituary as “a loving husband, father, and son. He enjoyed music, adventure, and spending time with his family.” For his obituary, click here.
