According to the Arkansas State Police Fatal Crash Summary, one person was killed and one was injured in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 63 just north of the Sharp/Lawrence county line just after midnight on Sunday, June 16.
The report states a 2000 GMC Sonoma driven by Dale Vickery, 61, of Williford was travelling south on U.S. 63 when it attempted to miss two deer in the roadway.
The vehicle struck one of the deer and exited the roadway, traveling up the embankment, striking some small trees then came back down the embankment and impacted the bottom of the ditch before it came to rest.
Vickery was later pronounced deceased and the passenger, Ashley Lee, 31, also of Williford was injured and transported to St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Conditions were dry and clear at the time of the accident, according to the official crash report.
