A Melbourne man was arrested and charged with possession of illegal drugs Saturday after he was found digging in bushes near a Batesville motel.

Alexander Hall (pictured), 32, was found pacing around the motel and digging into bushes when Officer Rick King arrived.

King said that Hall had told him he was looking for his cellphone and that he appeared to be under the influence of an illegal substance.

After running Hall’s identification, King discovered that he was a felony probationer and had a search waiver on file. After a search of Hall’s vehicle, King found methamphetamine, marijuana, digital scales, and four hypodermic needles.

Hall was transported to the Independence County jail where he was charged with a felony possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor possession of marijuana. A bond was set at $15,000.
