Independence County Fair set for next week

The 99th annual edition of the Independence County Fair will begin Monday, July 15, and run through Saturday, July 20, at the Independence County Fairgrounds in Batesville.

The event will feature rides, farm animals, commercial exhibits, veteran’s appreciation, live entertainment, pageants, and more.

The main stage will feature beauty pageants from Prize Baby girl and boy as well as Miss Independence County on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There will also be an amateur dog show, conducted by Junior Fair board members on Monday.

A youth talent contest will take place on Tuesday along with the beginning of armband nights for the rides, as well as a horse show the next day on Wednesday.

Thursday night will be used to showcase different kinds of beef with the commercial heifer and steer judging.

On Friday, it will be Senior Day beginning at 8 a.m. There will be a mule show in the cattle barn, and on the entertainment stage, Gene Cordova (left), a ventriloquist, and country performer Narvell Felts (right) will appear in concert.

Saturday is Veteran’s Appreciation Day, and the fair will hold a ceremony that begins at 10 a.m. Discount rides, more of Gene Cordova, and a concert by T. Graham Brown (below), a country recording artist will round out the day.

Admission is $7 or adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 11.  Children ages 5 and under are admitted free, and there will be free parking. Armbands are $15 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and will be $20 Friday and Saturday.
