Melbourne Fire Chief Rusty Campbell told White River Now’s Gary B. this morning that the walls may be standing but the roof caved in and the building was gutted — and he considers the Tally-Ho Club & Restaurant, to be a total loss.
The early morning fire was reported to the Melbourne Fire Department at 5:42 a.m. Campbell said when his four fire-fighting units arrived on the scene, smoke and flames were coming from the building. Rusty said his department was joined by the Zion and Mount Pleasant fire departments to battle the blaze and keep it confined to the Tally-Ho.
The departments were still on-site at 9:30 a.m. when Gary B. talked with the chief. Campbell said firemen were still putting water on a few “hot spots.”
Campbell said the restaurant was operated by Holly and Michael Weaver who took over from its former operator and Holly’s father, Carl Cooper. The restaurant and club were closed for a while, but the Weavers went back into business a year or so ago.
The chief said it is too early to know the cause of the fire, but there would be an investigation in the next few days to determine that.
