UPDATE, Aug. 1, 10:05 a.m.: Authorities have confirmed the driver has died as a result of this accident. The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin notification.

The third major traffic accident in Independence County within a week occurred last night when a driver apparently lost control of his vehicle near the Miller Creek Bridge.

The Batesville Fire Department (BFD) noted the vehicle ended up on its top on the railroad tracks below the bridge. Rescue crews got the call shortly after 8:30 last night. The BFD noted several tools from the Rescue One Unit and the Tower One Unit were needed “to hoist and drag the patient up to the top for emergency care.”

Vital Link EMS and Survival Flight both came to the scene to assist. It was indicated that there were no passengers in the vehicle. At the current time, the fire department did not have information on the driver’s name or condition.

In a post on the BFD’s Facebook page, the Department urges drivers to “take a little extra time to get where you’re going and pay a little extra attention while driving.”
