The Independence County Quorum Court will be in session next Monday.
The justices will hear a report from County Treasurer Bob Treadway that the 1-cent countywide sales tax brought in 5.33 percent less in July of this year than the year before. But, year to date, the sales tax collection is up over last year by 4.14 percent, according to the treasurer’s report.
The JPs will also hear from Bill Walmsley and Vanessa Adams from the Independence County Library and will also be asked to reappoint Mitzi Hargan to the Industrial Development Corporation.
The court will also address two ordinances. One is an amendment regarding the annual budget to appropriate grant funds to the Cord Volunteer Fire Department while the other will amend an ordinance and the budget for the purpose of implementing the 5 percent pay raise (or equivalent) for county employees that has been discussed in recent meets.
The JPs will also address one resolution authorizing Independence County Judge Robert Griffin to enter into a contract with M & A Jones Construction Company for the contract to build a childcare facility on the Southside School Campus. The funding for the construction project is being provided by a $200,000 grant to the county from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and local funds from Southside School.
The Independence County Quorum Court meets Monday, Aug. 12, in the Jess B. Carpenter Building in downtown Batesville. The gathering starts at 6 p.m.
