A registered sex offender who failed to keep law enforcement informed as to his residency is now charged with another felony: failure to comply with reporting requirements of the law. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The information on Jordan Scott Wheeler, 31, came out of a sex offender compliance check that was conducted in late July by the Independence County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigator Michael Moody said the registered residence of Wheeler in the southern part of the county was checked, and authorities found he had moved a month before. Wheeler was due to report his residence on Aug. 2. Moody said Wheeler has not reported as of Aug. 20 to verify his residence.

The court document said Wheeler has original charges from September 2010 with a conviction in federal court of possession of materials involving sexual exploitation of minors.

The penalty for failure to comply is three to 10 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000 or both. Wheeler’s bond has been set at $25,000.
