In a short (15 minutes) meeting last night, the Batesville City Council passed two ordinances involving retirement benefit policy changes for the mayor and city clerk, and with the upcoming implementation of the city’s new automated truck, the mayor reminded citizens about the city’s recently revised trash pick-up policies.

The benefits were contained in two ordinances and concerned retirement benefit policy changes for the spouses of the mayor and city clerk. The city council waived the third reading and unanimously passed the two ordinances on their second reading.

During the Mayor’s comments portion, Mayor Rick Elumbaugh noted that the trash crew will begin using the new truck on Tuesday, Sept. 3. This means only garbage contained in the new city-owned waste containers will be picked up. Elumbaugh emphasized any additional non-city trash cans along with any trash left on top of and/or near the city-owned container will not be picked up by the city.  The mayor noted additional city-owned containers can be obtained for a $7 fee which will go to offset the waste per ton fee charged to the city by the county.

Elumbaugh also said his public meeting of the season will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Batesville Community Center gymnasium at 1420 20th St. The meeting is titled “Love Your Community. Design Your Future Together.”

The mayor strongly encouraged the public to attend the meeting and to bring ideas.

And in a three-minute executive session, the council re-appointed two members of the city’s Appeals Commission, Zach Mobley and James Boothby.
