The IMPACT Steering Committee and the city of Batesville are inviting all community members to attend a community design charette, HeART Your Community, Thursday, Sept. 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Batesville Community Center gymnasium.

Community members will participate by sharing their vision for the future of the community using art and design. This meeting will be a collaborative of the city of Batesville Mayor’s Meeting and the quarterly IMPACT Steering Committee Meeting.

Both IMPACT and the city of Batesville have used open format meetings or design charettes in the past. Crystal Johnson, president/CEO of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC), says community meetings are a great way to communicate progress and engage resident groups.

“Some of our big wins from IMPACT have happened as a result of large community discussions, for example, the Independence Promise, AAA tournament recruitment, Excel by Eight initiative, ACT Work Ready Communities, and Independence County Cares just to name a few,” said Johnson.

The city of Batesville’s design charrette in 2009 was also very successful yielding projects like the community center, the wastewater treatment facility, flood control planning, downtown revitalization, and comprehensive trail plan development.

“We hope our community will engage in the design charrette to openly imagine new solutions and priorities for future projects,” said Johnson.

To RSVP, contact Jennifer Corter at the city of Batesville, (870) 698-2400 or email secretary@cityofbatesville.com.

IMPACT is a grassroots community development plan with a focus on economic prosperity, tourism, educational excellence and healthy living and wellbeing rooted in the core belief that every resident has the right to strive to create the environment they desire. Collaboration has driven the creation of the plan and implementation of its objectives.
