The Batesville Pioneers got their first win of the season in a thrilling 56-47 victory of the previously undefeated Nettleton Raiders in Jonesboro.
Ethan Ridgel ran for four scores and Eli Livingston ran for three more, but the big play occurred early in the second quarter when Justin Lewallen blocked a Nettleton field goal attempt and Tevin Whitaker scooped up the football and returned it 75 yards for a score.
The Pioneers also got a huge play from Blayne Dowell late in the final quarter as he forced a fumble that was recovered by Daniel Valencia to stop the Raiders final drive.
The Pioneers improve to 1-3 on the season and start 5A East play at 1-0.
The Pioneers will host Paragould in another conference match-up next Friday at Pioneer Stadium.
