A search party was organized Wednesday to look for a Cushman woman who was apparently lost in the woods.
The police report said authorities were asked to search for Tommye J. White, 33. White’s mother told authorities she had been out of town and had left her cell phone at home. When her mother got back into town, she said White had left several text messages saying she had fallen in an area behind their residence and was hurt.
Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens said eight of his deputies joined members of the Cushman Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, and community members to search for White. Stephens said there were several dangerous mine shafts in the area.
The sheriff said the group searched for several hours, much of that in rainfall. About the time they were coming in for a rest, White was located walking on Claxton Loop, according to the report.
White was transported to the White River Medical Center to be checked for any injuries. When she was released, White was taken to the Independence County Detention Center on an absconder arrest warrant.
