As an Independence County woman was being booked into the Independence County Detention Facility and escorted into a bathroom to be strip-searched, as per jail policy, authorities reported contraband was found.

The subject, April Jean Montgomery, 39, was observed removing a yellow pill from her bra, according to information submitted to the Independence County Circuit Court. The jail staff quickly confiscated the pill and completed the search.

According to the court info, Montgomery told matrons that her mother gave her the pill. The pill was later identified as a Xanax tablet, a Schedule 4 narcotic.

As a result of the incident, Montgomery was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, namely Xanax, and furnishing prohibited articles into a correctional facility, a felony.

Montgomery was placed on a $5,000 bail.
