The report came into Independence County Deputy Sheriff Johnny Byler early Sunday morning that a man in the 1000 block of Bethesda Road was sitting next to a tree, naked and talking to himself.
In the incident report, Byler said he found the unclothed individual, identified Richard Shawn Ross, 41, of Independence County, as Ross was climbing onto the top of a picnic table.
Byler said Ross then jumped off the table and began squatting on the ground, talking about dogs and other creatures chasing him. Byler said he asked Ross several times why he was naked in public, and Ross just kept talking about “things” chasing him in the woods.
Byler said it was apparent that Ross was under the influence of a narcotic of some kind.
Byler placed Ross under arrest without incident and took him to the Independence County Detention Facility. There, Byler charged Ross with public intoxication (drugs) and criminal trespassing.
