Woman found walking on highway charged with two drug felonies

news-siren-35

It was Sunday afternoon when Independence County Deputy Johnny Byler saw a woman walking on the State Highway 69 white line near Lonoke Lane.

In the incident report, Byler noted he observed the female who was making erratic movements with her hands and appeared to be yelling at herself.

Byler made contact with the woman identified as Salina Marie Heatherly, 35. When asked, the deputy sheriff said she said she was walking to Jacksonport to see her church family. Byler said Heatherly was slurring her speech, and moving around in an erratic manner. He asked her if she had recently used meth, and got a reply of “a few days ago.”

After talking more with Heatherly, Byler decided to place her under arrest.

At the jail, a strip search by jail matrons found Heatherly had a small plastic baggie of what tested positive as methamphetamine in her possession, according to the report.

Deputy Byler charged Heatherly with two felonies: possession of a controlled substance —  namely meth, and furnishing prohibited articles into a jail facility.

She was also charged with misdemeanor public intoxication — drugs.
