news-siren-41

A one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning sent the driver to the hospital and wiped out two sections of a white fence enclosing a residence in the 2500 block of Walnut Grove Road near Newark. One of the owners of the residence said, “It looked like a tornado hit,” according to the incident report

Police dispatch told Dep. Sgt. Ernie Gillihan of the Independence County Sheriff’s Department about a notification from OnStar, the vehicle’s security system, of the vehicle wrecking.

Upon arrival at the vehicle’s noted location, Gillihan found the driver, identified as Maison L.C. Lewis, 18, of Cave City. The officer noted in the report that Lewis had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from him. Gillihan said Lewis admitted to drinking earlier in the evening.

After complaining of back pain, Lewis was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He received two citations from Gillihan: 1) driving while intoxicated, and 2) refusing to submit to a blood/alcohol test.
