Obituary: Pauline “Polly” Williams

Myrtle Pauline “Polly” (Lane) Williams of Newport, Arkansas, went to a better life on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at the age of 100. She was born Oct. 15, 1919, at Monette, Arkansas, the daughter of Charles Richard and Mamie Lee (Vance) Lane.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, working puzzles, and having yard sales. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed collecting newspaper articles and memorabilia about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Alb” Williams; her parents; a daughter, Norma Gates; six brothers, Jack, Luther, Cledith, Floyd, Arthur, and George Lane; and one sister, Ozella Westbrooks.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Breckenridge and husband, Gerald, of Beedeville, and Carolyn Austin and husband, John, of Cord; seven grandchildren, Larry Gates and wife, Michelle, of Tuckerman, Charles Gates and wife, Sally of Cord-Charlotte, Michelle Bishop and husband, Brenden of Pfeiffer, Lisa Felts and husband, Scott, of Conway, Fonda Evans and husband, Jeff, of Diaz, Cheryl Odell and husband, Chad, of Newport, Hugh Breckenridge and wife, Sherry, of Beedeville; sixteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 4 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Maple Springs Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Hugh Breckenridge, Larry Gates, Chad Odell, Jeff Evans, Cody Odell, and Colton Odell. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Gates, Dr. Robert Walton, Chuck Frazier, and her grandsons and great-grandsons. Arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
