A couple sitting in a vehicle near the Desha Fire Department on Gainer Ferry Road in Desha caught the eye of Independence County Chief Deputy Sheriff Aaron Moody Sunday evening, Nov. 10.
According to the incident report, Moody was patrolling in the area when he saw the vehicle pull out and head east. Moody pulled it over near the Desha Flash Market as it was without taillights.
When speaking with the driver, Moody smelled the odor of marijuana, according to the report. After an investigation, both the driver, Daniel Kyle Wooten, 23, of Cave City, and a front seat passenger, Amanda M. Brightwell, 30, of Hot Springs Nation were taken into custody and cited for possession of marijuana.
Brightwell was also cited for obstructing governmental operations when she lied about her identity because she had an absconder warrant and other warrants out of Cleburne County for her arrest, according to the report. Wooten was also cited for driving on a suspended license.
Both were provided a Dec. 18 Independence County District Court date.
