The Batesville Pioneer Swim Team took to the water for the first time last Thursday at the Little Rock Central High School Invitational Meet.

The boys team took second place overall at the swim meet, while the girls team took fifth place.

Many swimmers are returning, but new faces are on the pool deck. The team welcomes Sarah Shaw; Molly and Lillie Guth; Kate and Clair Gunter; Tristan Wells; and Daniel Latus. The remainder of the girls team was represented by Kate Moody. The remainder of the boys team was as follows: Keegan Sudol, Corbin Davis, Austin Williamson, Nathan Hernandez, Anthony Sonnier, and Jack Allen.

Despite it being the first meet of the season, the coaching staff noted the whole team performed well.

Open tryouts are still being held at the Batesville Community Center for anyone interested in representing the Pioneer Nation through swimming. Tryouts are from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. All levels of swimmers are welcome to come.

The team will compete next Thursday, Nov. 21, at Pocahontas for their second swim meet of the season.
