The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz got off to a hot start to open their 2019-20 season as they hosted the Riverside Lady Rebels Thursday night in a rematch of last year’s state championship game.
The Lady Bearkatz were on fire from three-point range early and often in the first quarter and led by as many as 25 before leading 35-12 at halftime.
It was more of the same for the Lady Katz in the second half as defense lead the way, resulting in a Bearkatz win by a final score of 56-23.
Freshman Jenna Lawrence had a great varsity debut, leading all scorers with 16 points.
The Lady Katz improved to 1-0 on the young season and will head to Clinton next week for the First Service Bank Invitational Tournament.
