A “quarter auction” is being held tonight in Batesville to benefit James Canard, who is fighting cancer.

Canard has been with the Batesville Walmart for 21 years, and chances are, if you have been at the Walmart in Batesville, you have probably met James.

Friends and supporters of James are having the auction at Fox Creek BBQ on lower Lawrence Street in Batesville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. tonight while the auction begins at 6 p.m.

A quarter auction is described by organizers as, “…a cross between an auction and a raffle,” where participants bid with quarters on donated items. Proceeds will go toward Canard’s medical and travel expenses. He has been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at the age of 44. Canard and his wife fly to Atlanta every two weeks for treatments.

Listen below to a conversation with two organizers of the event, Amy Pinkston and Carey Markum, as they discuss the auction with Big Daddy Randy Alan at the studios of the White River Now family of radio stations.
