KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Lyon College men’s soccer team was selected as the No. 3-seed in the Marshall Bracket of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men’s Soccer National Championship opening round, which was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The three-team, single-elimination bracket, will be hosted by Missouri Valley College and will be held at Gregg-Mitchell Field in Marshall, Mo. The opening round will be played Nov. 22 and Nov. 23.
The Marshall Bracket is one of 15 three-team opening round brackets across the country. The 15 winners, as well as Westmont College, will advance to the NAIA Men’s Soccer Championship Final Site in Irvine, Cal.
Lyon enters the opening round as the No. 3-seed with a record of 15-5-1 and earned an automatic berth for finishing second in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) regular season. The Scots will be making their second appearance in the opening round and first since 2015. Lyon will take on No. 2-seed Missouri Valley College in the opening round on Nov. 22.
Missouri Valley College sports a 12-6-0 record on the season and clinched a spot in the opening round with an at-large berth. The Vikings were ranked No. 24 in the latest Coaches Poll.
The top-seed in the Marshall Bracket is St. Thomas University (Fla.). St. Thomas enters the tournament with a 12-2-2 overall record, finishing No. 13 in the latest Coaches Poll and receiving an at-large berth. The Bobcats will play the winner of Lyon College and Missouri Valley College on Nov. 23. The winner of this game will advance to the NAIA Men’s Soccer Championship Final Site in Irvine.
