Sheryl Thompson, reading aide at West Magnet Elementary School, was named Monday as the November recipient of the “Citizens Bank Above & Beyond Award” for the Batesville School District.
Each month’s “Above & Beyond” recipient is selected from the nominations and announced at a Batesville School Board meeting. The award includes a certificate from the board, and a $25 gift card and Yeti tumbler from Citizens Bank.
The nominations for Thompson all referenced her willingness to jump in and help. Some of their comments included:
- “‘All hands on deck’ is a phrase to describe Sheryl Thompson. She is willing to do whatever it takes to make west the very best place for our students and teachers.”
- “Sheryl is extremely dedicated to improving the chances of success for every student.”
- “Sheryl wears many hats at West: Small group specialist, working endlessly with our second graders, making sure they can read at or above grade level; master gardener, volunteering her own time to take care of our outdoor classroom; cafeteria queen during breakfast and lunch; and willing worker, always looking to make every aspect of West even better.”
- “We love our Mrs. Thompson. She makes West the Best!”
Citizens Bank and the school district initiated the “Above & Beyond” program in 2012 to recognize school staff members for exceptional service to students, parents, school, peers, and the district. Anyone employed by the district may be nominated by their peers.
