The Independence County Election Commission met Thursday, Dec. 5 to allow candidates to draw straws for their ballot positions.
Two other large items were announced at Thursday’s gathering. 2020 has potential be a year of record voter turnout and Independence County is officially a voter center county.
What does this mean? According to Independence County Co-Election Coordinator Charlie Morris, that means any registered voters can vote anywhere in the county at any polling site.
Every voting site will be able to handle any voter regardless of where they live.
Morris also said that the election commission will keep all the current polling sites at this time, but somewhere down the road, there may be changes depending on the flow of voters going to a particular site.
The important dates coming up for Primary and General Election voting are as follows:
- Feb. 17, 2020 – Early voting begins for the Primary Election
- March 3, 2020 – Preferential Primary Election day
- Oct. 19, 2020 – Early vote begins for the General Election
- Nov. 3, 2020 – General Election Day
