Obituary: Johnnie Marie Sandefur

Johnnie Marie Sandefur, 93, of Sulphur Rock passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1926, in Big Hue, Oklahoma to Clarence W. Huffman and Lillie (Tabler) Huffman.

Johnnie was a loving and caring individual. She was a very active member of Sulphur Rock Baptist Church and loved her church family, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she also served as a foster grandparent for Sulphur Rock School and babysat the neighbourhood children. She raised farm animals, enjoyed gardening and was also a great seamstress and made clothes for her grandchildren. Johnnie was a fantastic cook and was known for her delicious chicken n’ dumplings and her desserts.

Survivors include her son, Alfred Evans of Bauxite; two daughters, Marie Lunsford of Malvern and Linda Brown (Jerry) of Southside; one step-daughter, Marie Qualls (Bill) of Sulphur Rock; twenty-six grandchildren; seventy-one great-grandchildren; twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Arnold Evans; her second husband, Levern Sandefur; two daughters, Barbara Davenport and Lucille McKinzie; one stepdaughter, Vernelle Young; one brother; four sisters; and a great-grandson, Zachary Hamilton.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Evans, Brady Dyer, Corky Auxier, Dustin Bishop, Chad Pilcher, Justin Thomas, Arnold Lunsford and Josh Pilcher. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Mountain Meadows Nursing Home.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home with Josh Swinea and Troy Sharp officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to service at the funeral home.
