A man who was self-checking at the Batesville Walmart last Friday put his cell phone on the counter when he began having issues with the check-out machine. Upon moving to a working machine, he proceeded with his purchase.

According to a Batesville Police Department release, Batesville Officer Kody Headley said the man then realized he had left his phone at the other machine. When he went back to retrieve the phone, he discovered it had been stolen.

A review of store video showed a white male taking the phone and then concealing it, the release noted.

The case remains under investigation as Batesville Police begin to identify the culprit.

Batesville Police also report patrolmen investigated five minor accidents over the weekend. No injuries were reported.
