news-siren-52

Deputy Johnny Byler and Investigator Dillon Sallas of the Independence County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop Monday evening, Dec. 9, after observing a vehicle traveling into the oncoming lane of traffic near Ashley Drive and Highway 167 in Independence County.

After Byler and Sallas approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as Matthew Polston (pictured below), 47, of Batesville, admitted he was driving on a suspended license, according to the incident report. After learning Polston was on active parole with a search waiver on file, the officers searched the vehicle, and Sallas found a large plastic baggie containing a crystalline substance, which later field-tested positive as methamphetamine, the report said.

Polston was transported to the Independence County Detention Facility and is facing felony possession of methamphetamine.

Authorities say charges will be presented to the 16th Judicial District prosecutor’s office.
