Chris Christenson of Newport, Ark., departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, at the age of 77. She was born on Jan. 31, 1942, in Canastota, N.Y.
Chris was a nurse’s aide, working at different times for Newport Hospital and Harris Hospital over the years. She began her career in May of 1977, and worked until her retirement in the Fall of 2005. Chris loved her work, almost as much as she enjoyed watching football, especially when the Arkansas Razorbacks were playing. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her friends. Chris was of the Catholic faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Christenson; two brothers, Richard and William Christenson; one sister, Beverly Beasley; and one sister-in-law, Maryann Christenson.
Chris is survived by one brother, Dr. Roy W. Christenson of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Karen Kay, of N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends, including special friends, Ellen McChristian, Donna Spargo, and D.J. Honey.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Her former co-workers from Newport Hospital will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation services will be at Jackson’s Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. with funeral services afterward beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Newport.
