An arrest warrant has been issued by the Independence County Prosecuting Attorney’s office for a former Cushman man who is a convicted sex offender.

Court records say Derek Dewayne Tharp (pictured), 28, is charged with failing to comply with registration and reporting requirements of sex offenders.

The court information says although Tharp was given a 10-day grace period, not including weekends, he still did not verify his residency as required of every registered sex offender.

If found guilty, the penalty is 3-to-19 years imprisonment along with a possible fine of $10,000, or a combination of both.
