The Melbourne Bearkatz looked to defend their home court for 2020 homecoming on Friday night as they took on the Riverside Rebels.

The Katz’s stalwart defense continued to leave its mark on the conference, allowing only twelve first-half points.

The Rebels could never get anything going offensively, and the Bearkatz pulled away late, winning by a score of 52-35.

The win, combined with a Rector loss at Bay, propelled the Bearkatz to first place in the conference standings for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Senior Gabe Lawrence led the Katz in scoring with 17 points and Layton Hennings added 16.
