Full house at Pioneer Gymnasium as the Batesville Pioneers hosted the Southside Southerners

The Batesville Pioneers hosted the Southside southerners this week in 4A-3 Conference action.

On Monday, the boys took to the floor and it was all Southside for much of the game.

The Pioneers fell 57-44 as Dawson McMahan led with 13 points and Caleb Anderson had 12.

The Pioneers fall to 12-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.  

On Tuesday,  in front of a capacity crowd,  The Lady Pioneers trailed through the entire opening quarter and finally took the lead 13-11 off a shot from Izzy Higginbottom at the Buzzer.

The Lady Pioneers led at the intermission 29-21 despite being a little chilly from the foul line.

Southside fought back and it was tied at 39 when the final quarter began.

The lead switched to either side in the fourth quarter five times and with 8.2 seconds left in the game, Sophomore Taylor Rush was fouled and sealed the deal from the charity stripe to send the Lady Pioneers home with the win 58-53.

Rush ended the game as the lead scorer with 24 and Higginbottom had 21.

Batesville is now 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.  

Southside’s Reese Gardner ended with 17 points and Lundon Cuzzort ended with 10.

Southside is now 13-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. 

Southside will host Blytheville and Batesville will travel to Brookland this Friday.  Both Senior High teams will play on the same night with tip-off at 6:30 p.m.
