Melbourne Bearkatz hit the hardwood versus the Marmaduke Greyhounds Friday night


The Melbourne Bearkatz took to the hardwood Friday night taking on the Marmaduke Greyhounds in conference action.

The Lady Katz got off to a quick start, scoring the first 10 points of the ballgame, opening up a lead of as many as 17 in the first half before Marmaduke cut the lead to 29-18 at halftime.

The Lady Katz struggled early in the third before some key baskets inside stretched the lead back to as many as 19; the Greyhounds couldn’t provide an answer offensively, and the Lady Katz cruised to a 56-41 victory.

Jenna Lawrence led all scorers with 23 points, and Kiley Webb added 10.

In the nightcap, the Bearkatz looked to stretch their winning streak to five games and to complete their season sweep of Marmaduke.

Just like the ladies, the men got off to a quick start offensively, outscoring Marmaduke 18-7 in the first quarter.

The Greyhounds were able to make some baskets in the second frame and narrowed the margin to 29-20 by the half.

The Katz started the second half just like they started the first, with a hot shooting effort, while Marmaduke could only manage nine points in the frame.

The fourth quarter was even, as the Katz won easily, 57-40.

The Lady Katz improve to 15-2, 7-0 in the conference, while the Katz moves to 11-6, 7-1 in the conference.
