A two-vehicle accident south of Batesville this morning claimed the life of a young driver.
According to the preliminary fatal crash summary from the Arkansas State Police, a 2007 Chrysler 300 sedan driven by a male minor was heading north on Highway 167 south around 9:40 a.m. when the vehicle “crossed all lanes of U.S. 167 before colliding head-on” with a 2016 Freightliner driven by Karry Didway, 36, of Yantis, Tex.
The driver of the sedan was killed in the collision. Didway was injured and transported to White River Medical Center. The age, identification, and address of the driver were not listed in the summary due to the victim being a minor.
The accident occurred in the 4200 block of Batesville Boulevard in the outside southbound lane of Highway 167, according to officials. At one point, all four lanes of the roadway were blocked as authorities worked and cleared the scene.
The summary noted the road condition as “dry,” and the weather condition as “cloudy” at the time of the collision.
The accident was the 39th fatality on Arkansas highways in 2020.
