Fred Wann, former baseball coach at Lyon College, will be honored Saturday, Feb. 8, when Scots Field will be officially re-named Fred Wann Field.

The dedication ceremony will be held prior to the Scots’ doubleheader against the University of St. Francis (Ill.).

Fans are asked to arrive at 11 a.m. to celebrate the dedication with the official unveiling of the new sign that will be displayed behind the third-base dugout and to see Coach Wann, a longtime champion of Lyon College athletics, throw out the ceremonial first pitch at approximately 11:55 a.m., the school said in a media release.

An announcement was made during the summer at the inaugural Scots Spectacular by Lyon College President W. Joseph King, Director of Athletics Kevin Jenkins and Vice President of Advancement David Hutchison about the renaming of the field.

Wann’s service to Lyon spanned more than six decades and included the distinctions of being the Lyon Intramural Athletics Program founding director, an associate professor of physical education, and a tennis coach, apart from his time serving as the head baseball coach.

He was inducted into the Lyon Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993 and was named Professor Emeritus of Physical Education. In 2014, he received the Lifetime Service Award. He also received the College’s first-ever Champion Award at the Scots Spectacular.
