A candidate for position four on the Arkansas Supreme Court visited Batesville yesterday.
Judge Morgan “Chip” Welch talked with locals over lunch at The River Waterfront Steak & Grill (formerly Josie’s) Thursday afternoon seeking voter support and sharing his aspirations for the Arkansas Supreme Court.
Currently, Welch serves as the 16th Divison Circuit Judge for the 6th Judicial Circuit serving Pulaski and Perry Counties. Prior to being elected as a circuit judge, Welch worked in private practice law.
Judge Welch addressed the audience briefly stating what is hopes for the Arkansas Supreme Court.
“I think we need a court that is predictable, a court that is not fractured, a court that is diligent, and a court that represents all Arkansans, and not just the red jerseys or the blue jerseys,” Welch told attendees.
Welch is facing Barbara Womack Webb for position four on the March 3, 2020, ballot. Position four is currently held by Justice Jo Hart. Welch told White River Now’s Gary Brigdman that he has great respect for Hart.
“She’s done a good job for the people of Arkansas, especially if you talk about independence,” Welch said. “There’s nobody more independent than Jo Hart.
