The Lyon College men’s basketball team hosted The W for the Scots’ final non-conference game of the season. Lyon jumped out to an early 23-10 lead and never looked back as the Scots ran away with this game, 77-55. With the victory, Lyon improves their win streak to five games as the Scots have compiled a 16-7 record on the season and 11-4 mark in conference play. The W falls to 9-13 during their 2019-20 campaign.
Back-to-back three-point baskets from Dominique Loyd and Winston Peace gave the Scots a 13-7 lead in the early going. Lyon continued to build their lead as Grant Patterson sank two free throws to extend the Scots’ advantage to 13 points, 23-10. Lyon kept their foot on the gas pedal, running their lead up to 46-20 at halftime after Jonathan Iliya converted a layup in the middle of the paint.
On the first possession of the second half, Winston Peace drained Lyon’s ninth triple of the game to give the Scots a 49-20 lead. The W would try to fight back, but Lyon’s team defense and unselfish play on offense enabled the Scots to extend their advantage to as many as 36 points, 69-33, with 9:19 remaining in the game.
Dominique Loyd led all scorers with 18 points as he connected on his first four attempts from long range tonight, while Jonathan Iliya tallied 14 points and secured 6 rebounds. Lyon shot 81.8% from the free-throw line as the Scots converted 18 of 22 attempts from the charity stripe.
The Scots will prepare for a road trip to Missouri for a conference game against William Woods University on Feb. 8. Tip-off for Lyon’s matchup against WWU is set for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. inside the Anderson Arena in Fulton, Missouri.
