Lyon men’s basketball falls on the road at WBU

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The Lyon College men’s basketball team suffered a tough road loss as the Scots fell, 68-56, at Williams Baptist on Thursday night in American Midwest Conference action. WBU improved to 9-11 (8-8 AMC), while Lyon dropped to 16-9 (11-6 AMC).

Williams Baptist jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game before a jumper by Cole Anderson capped a 7-2 run by the Scots to tie the game at 9-9.

After the two teams were held scoreless over the next two minutes, Aaron King split a pair of free throws to give WBU a one-point advantage. The Scots went on to grab a four-point lead after Ray Price and Hunter Daley knocked down a three-pointer each.

The Scots held their lead over the next couple minutes until a string of six-straight points by Marquez Chew gave WBU a 17-15 advantage with 7:45 left in the half. Lyon climbed its way back into the game and took a 26-25 lead at the break following a three-pointer each by Zalek Sharp and Daley.

Lyon used the three-ball to build its lead to seven in the opening minutes of the second half as Grant Patterson, Daley and Dominique Loyd each hit a triple to put the Scots ahead, 37-30, with just over 15 minutes remaining.

WBU responded with a 10-3 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 40-40. The two teams went on to exchange a bucket each before a pair of free throws by Brian Davis broke a 42-42 tie and gave the Eagles a 44-42 advantage. The Eagles would not surrender their lead the rest of the way as the Scots fell on the road.

Daley led the Scots with nine points and seven rebounds in the game.

The Scots will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon as they will travel to No. 19 Central Baptist College for another AMC matchup at 3 p.m.
