Southerners are one win from Regionals after a victory Monday night over the Pocahontas Redskins, 65-51

The Southside Senior Boys started hot and stayed hot all night as Devan Halford pumped in 37 points and Rance Wagoner had 10 rebounds to lead the Southerners to an impressive 65-51 win over the Pocahontas Redskins Monday night setting up a showdown with the Valley View Blazers with a berth in the regionals on the line Tuesday night at Southside. 

The Southerners led by three at the end of the first quarter before Halford added 11 in the second quarter to give the Southerners a 28-15 lead going into halftime. 

Halford added 13 in the third as the Southerners led by as much as 21 before ending the quarter up 17.

The game was over midway thru the fourth quarter as Pocahontas’ Coach Brewington cleared the bench after a Halford layup gave the Southerners a 19 point lead with a little over four minutes to play.

Devan Halford had five rebounds and three assists to go along with his 37 points, Jake Painter had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists, Blayne Bufford added seven points and six boards as the Southerners had 31 rebounds on the night.

The Southerners will play Valley View at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday night with the winner moving on to the semifinals and gaining a berth to the regional tournament.
