Obituary: Jessie F. Allen

Jessie F. Allen, 90, of Batesville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1930, in Batesville, Arkansas to Joseph Frank Allen and Martha (Langston) Allen.

Jessie was a member of and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, he also was a member of the choir and Helping Hands Ministry. He was on FMT Committee and was on the Executive Board of Independence Baptist Association. He served in the United States Army and was attached to Co. A, 5th Engineers Combat Battalion from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.

He was also an auto mechanic for just over 42 years with Stanley Wood Chevrolet where he was known as “Mr. Goodwrench” and “The Doctor of Motors.”

Jessie enjoyed hunting, fishing and became an avid golfer. He enjoyed his coffee buddies at the round table at WRMC and was a huge sports fan. He loved being with his grandchildren and walking his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Sally (Bell) Allen; two sons, Jessie Michael Allen (Carla) of Floral and Christopher Scott Allen (Kristal) of Batesville; two daughters, Cherri Ann Harmon (Don) of Jonesboro and Vicki Jo Reed (Dan) of Batesville; eight grandchildren, Lindsay Burnett (Jesse), Tiffany Henderson, Mindy Estrada (Manuel), Glen Gay (Ashley), Jonathan Reed, Sarah Reed, Ashdon Wilson (Kenneth) and Maci Jo Allen; eight great-grandchildren, Austin Burnett, Allie Burnett, Maury Estrada, Shay Estrada, Manny Jo Estrada, Gaige Gay, Ella Gay, and Grayson Gay; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Hale Allen, Joe Allen, and John Allen; and grandson, Michael Joseph Reed.

Pallbearers are Chris Allen, Mike Allen, Tim Thompson, Tony Thompson, Dan Reed, Jonathan Reed, Don Harmon, and Kenny Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Calvary Baptist and the members of his Sunday School Class.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at Calvary Baptist with Pastor Randy Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Barnes Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville.

Memorials may be made in his honor to Calvary Baptist Church Choir or Calvary Baptist Pioneer Football Breakfast, 1775 Lyon Street, Batesville, AR 72501.
