More sentencing news from Stone County Circuit Court

Last week was sentencing week in Stone County Circuit Court, according to court documents.

Billy Joe Massey, 41, was the only inmate to receive prison time. Massey entered a negotiated plea of guilty to second-degree forgery and theft of property.

He was sentenced to 24 months in prison and given a 36-month suspended sentence. Massey was also ordered to repay the forgery victims, identified as Julie and Frank Foll, beginning no later than 60 days after he is released from prison. Massey was also fined $1,500 plus court costs.

Two other inmates received suspended sentences and another was given probation.

Johnny D. Reed, 28, was given a one-year suspended sentence for unauthorized use of a vehicle. During the negotiated plea of guilty, a charge of breaking or entering was dropped. Reed’s victim was a 68-year-old female. Reed was also fined $1,000 plus court costs. Reed was credited with 197 days spent in the county jail awaiting his court date.

Under a negotiated plea of guilty, Jonathan G. Brothers, 23, was given a one-year suspended sentence. He pleaded to first-degree assault on a family or household member.

Two charges were dropped by the prosecution: false imprisonment, and interference with emergency communications. Brothers was also fined $1,000 plus court costs. He was credited with spending 110 days in the county jail awaiting his court date.

And, James Michael Pate, 26, was sentenced to 60-months probation on his negotiated plea. He pleaded guilty to failure to appear, four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. Charges dropped included: first-degree forgery, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
