The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz cruised to an opening-round victory in the 2A North Regional Tournament Wednesday over the Cross County Lady Thunderbirds.
After a slow start, the Lady Katz went on a 14-0 run to create separation, invoking the mercy rule in the fourth quarter, winning by a final score of 72-46.
Jenna Lawrence led all scorers with 19 points, Kenley McCarn had 15.
Melbourne advances to the Regional Semifinals and will play either Clarendon or Riverside Friday night.
