The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz advanced to their second straight Regional Championship game Friday night with a 60-47 win over the Riverside Lady Rebels.

It was all Melbourne early, as a full court pressure defense created turnovers and the Lady Rebels got into serious foul trouble, having one starter foul out with 1:30 to play in the half.

The Lady Katz took a 36-20 lead into the halftime break, and were looking to pull away.

That wasn’t the case, however, as Riverside came out of the locker room hot, scoring the first nine points of the period, trimming the deficit to 41-33 after three quarters.

More fouls befell Riverside in the fourth quarter, and two more starters fouled out, allowing the Lady Bearkatz to pull away late, winning by a final score of 60-47.

Kenley McCarn led all scorers with 24 points, Josie Roark added 10.

Melbourne will advance to the regional finals, where they will play conference rival Marmaduke.
