Melbourne Lady Bearkatz dominate the opening round of the 2A State Tournament, 67-27

The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz cruised to an opening-round victory Tuesday at the 2A State Tournament in Quitman, defeating the Fordyce Lady Redbugs 67-27.

After a brief sluggish start, the Lady Katz turned on the heat, using their pressure defense to create turnovers and capitalize on the ensuing possessions, going on a 23-4 run across the first and second quarters and ended the half with a 43-14 lead. 

The second half was all Melbourne, as the Lady Katz cruised to a 67-27 victory.

Kenley McCarn led all scorers with 21 points, all of which came in the first half. Kylee Humphries added 11.

The Lady Katz advance to the State Quarterfinals, and will play the winner of the Bigelow/Eureka Springs matchup Thursday night at 7.
