The recent (March 9-15, 2020) issue of Arkansas Business contains some very informative articles on women-owned businesses in Arkansas.

The magazine has also ranked women-owned companies by number of employees. The list is led by a North Little Rock company, Welsco, Inc., which has 129 employees. The company is a distributor of welding supplies, industrial and specialty gases. Angela E. Harrison serves as the Chief Executive Officer. The company has been in business since 1941.

Most all of the women-owned companies in the listing are located in larger, populated areas — Little Rock, North Little Rock, Fort Smith, and Russellville.

However, there is one company in the top ten women-owned companies that is located in a city with a population under 500.

Evening Shade is a small city in Sharp County in North Central Arkansas with a population of 432. It has a median age of 40, and for every 86 males, there are 100 females living in Evening Shade.

And, it is the headquarters of Cushman’s Climate Control, Inc. Jo Ann Cushman serves as the company’s Vice-President.

Cushman’s Climate Control has 25 employees and was established by Mike and Jo Ann Cushman in 2008. It is a HVACR company: Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration. Cushman’s Climate Control specializes in new construction, change-outs, and service.
