In response to the coronavirus, the Independence County Sheriff’s Department is implementing new precautions at the sheriff’s department and the county jail, according to a release from Sheriff Shawn Stephen’s office today.

Starting immediately the following programs will be suspended until further notice:

• Inmate in-person visitation (normally held on weekends).
• Fingerprinting for employment or other functions outside of law enforcement.

The Detention Facility has new capabilities of video visitation with inmates that can be set up. Contact the Detention Facility at (870) 612-6880 for further information on Video Visitation.

“The new precautions are to protect all employees, the public, and the inmates housed in our facility from any unknown and known illnesses,” the department said in the release.
