Obituary: Wendell Ray Saffell

Wendell Ray Saffell, 66 of Cave City went to his heavenly home on Monday, March 9, 2020.

He was born, Oct. 20, 1953, in Batesville, Arkansas to Billie Sunday and Edith Avanell Godwin Saffell.

He was a farmer, a member of the Cave City School Board for the past 13 years, a former member of the River Valley School Board and a former member of the Lawrence County FSA Committee.  He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Cathy Duncan Saffell of the home; one son, Chris McManners (Sheryl) of Forrest City; two daughters, Wendee Saffell Abbott and Michelle King (Jamie) both of Cave City; one brother, Ronald Saffell (Becky) of Saffell; two sisters, his twin,  Pam Kitsmiller (Jim) of Batesville and Barbara Wood of Mountain Home; six grandchildren, Justin Brown, Kobe King, Cy King, Rhett King, Maddox Abbott, and  Christyn McManners; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 13, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City with Bro. Ron Canard officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery at Dowdy with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Ellis, Kenny Joe Harris, Ronnie Coleman, Steve Stauffer, Jerry Matheny, and Steven Green.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Brown, Kobe King, Cy King, Rhett King, Maddox Abbott, Christyn McManners, Lanny Jones, Bobby Joe Jones, Jim Smith, Russell Fowler, Scott Durham, Rickey Huskey, Ronny Lindsey, Red Lassiter, W.O. Huskey, Vince Wright, Perry Bell, Cave City School Board, Coffee Shop Crews, local watermelon growers, and his card-playing buddies.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
