The precautions over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continue.

Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh has released this statement from his office:

As the situation around the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, the City of Batesville wants to ensure the well-being of our employees and our customers. We know this is an unsettling time for everyone and our hearts go out to anyone who may be affected by the coronavirus. As always, the health and well-being of our employees and our customers are our highest priorities. Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, the City Administration offices will be closed to the public. We feel limiting the number of people and personal contact in public places would be the best for now.

Batesville Water Utilities will begin accepting payments in the drive-thru window and payments can still be made at the kiosk or online. For new accounts, we ask that you call ahead with any information that can be handled prior to your visit since our new services will have to be completed in the drive-thru area as well. To schedule a service order or make a credit card payment by phone, please call (870) 698-2415 extension 1.

For any city-related business or issues please call (870) 698-2400. A list of extensions will be provided for each department or you are welcome to dial extension 100 and someone will help direct your call.

A press release was made earlier today by Police Chief Alan Cockrill stating the Batesville Police Department will also be closed to the public. For non-emergency calls, please call the police department directly at (870) 569-8111 or dispatch at (870) 698-2450. An officer will be dispatched to your location. As always in the event of an emergency, please call 911.

We regret having to limit access to our public offices. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days and weeks. Staff will be on-site and will still help our customers and residents to the best of our ability. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the days ahead.

Earlier this week, both the Independence County Sheriff’s Department and the Batesville Police Department issued new guidelines in response to the coronavirus, and events and sports activities have also been canceled or postponed, locally and nationwide.
